Lake Mead & Hoover Dam

     Lake Mead is located between Mohave County, Arizona and Clark County, Nevada. The lake is a Reservoir which its primary inflows come from the Colorado River. Its primary outflow is also the Colorado River. The Max. length is 120 mi (190 km) with a surface area of 247 sq mi (640 km2). Lake Mead's Max. depth 532 ft (162 m) with a water volume at Maximum: 26,134,000 acre⋅ft (32.236 km3). Shore length of the reservoir is 1 759 mi (1,221 km) and surface elevation at Max: 1,229 ft (375 m). Lake Mead is a lake on the Colorado River, about 24 mi (39 km) from the Las Vegas Strip, southeast of the city of Las Vegas, Nevada, in the states of Nevada and Arizona. Hoover Dams' Purpose is to supply Power, flood control, water storage, regulation, and recreation to Lake Mead. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Construction cost $49 million (1931 budget) ($639 million in 2016 dollars). The owner(s) is/ are the United States Government and is operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. Originally known as Boulder Dam from 1933, it was officially renamed Hoover Dam by a joint resolution of Congress in 1947. The dam was named after President Herbert Hoover.
